Uprising
We know that the story of the American church in the United States is still being written. While there have always been churches which practice civil disobedience against unjust laws, a kind of Christianity which bears little resemblance to the radical Christ has managed to shape the plot-line of what church can be for far too many.
But we know something different. We can bear witness to something different. Our stories matter. They are part of the way that the radical and prophetic Christ is revealed. We want to be the kind of church that centers the margins, speaks truth to power, and stands in solidarity with the most vulnerable in our society.
We need an UPRISING. An uprising in terms of our visibility. An uprising for the sake of our sustainability. An uprising that can flow into the greater uprising I believe God dreams of – one that will speak a better word than the counterfeit gospels of rapacious capitalism and misguided nationalism and make clear that there is a better way – a more beautiful way.
Our goal is to raise $11,000 by May 18.
The first $1,000 will go to Kids in Need of Defense (KIND) a non-profit organization dedicated to the wellbeing of unaccompanied and separated children.
The next $10,000 will be used to support our new staff position – an Admin and Comms person who will help to make the work of the pastors more sustainable so that they can continue to share the more beautiful gospel.
Finally, half of every dollar we raise over $10,000 will go to our DMV Support Fund that supports those who effected by the Presidential administration’s budget cuts. A
long the way, we hope that more people will learn that a church like ours exists and that the forces of religious and political exclusion aren’t the only ones defining the plot.
